The United Nations’ recognition of U Kyaw Moe Tun, who represents the National Unity Government (NUG), is encouraging violence, said the Military council on December 14.
The Military Council’s press release team expressed their opinion through a live chat with reporters from local and foreign news agencies.
The United Nations Credential Committee confirmed U Kyaw Moe Tun as Myanmar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations on December 12. U Kyaw Moe Tun told the official announcement will be made on December 16.
U Kyaw Moe Tun is represent the National Unity Government (NUG), the Union Parliamentary Representative Committee (CRPH) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF) and does not represent the Military Council. The military council also accused U Kyaw Moe Tun of violating UN treaties.
Dr. Sai Kyi Zin Soe, a political analyst, opined that U Kyaw Moe Tun was allowed to continue to represent because of the controversy.
“Actually, the United Nations Credential Committee did not decide. Continue to accept what it has already accepted. It means that his dispute has not been resolved. When it was put like that, U Kyaw Moe Tun is related to the NUG, so I think this is the nature of the accusation.”
General Min Aung Hlaing, Chairman of the Military Council, said in August this year that the appointment of a representative to the United Nations is the first issue to be resolved between the Military Council and the United Nations. He also wanted to know why the UN did not recognize the military council.
Military Council Foreign Minister U Wunna Maung Lwin released an order on February 27, 2021 that U Kyaw Moe Tun was terminated from his duties because he had violated the civil service law and regulations for doing CDM against the coup d’etat .
However, the Military Council rejected the proposal and the UN Qualification Committee decided in 2021. Due to the suspension of the Myanmar representative selection program on December 1st, only U Kyaw Moe Tun was allowed to continue to represent Myanmar at the United Nations.
