The recommendations of some Asean members against the ASEAN Special Representative for Burma to meet with representatives of the National Unity Government (NUG) went against the ASEAN principles, the Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
The CRPH and the NUG have been declared terrorist groups by the military council, saying that engaging with them would be against Asean principles and would undermine Asean’s counter-terrorism efforts.
The coup junta has also been declared a terrorist organization by the NUG government. Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn is scheduled to travel to Burma in March to meet with junta officials, he told a meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers on Thursday, AFP reported.
“To meet with NUG Human rights groups and the NUG government have criticized Asean for engaging only with the Burmese military council, recognizing it as a legitimate body.”
