About 20 village Administrators of Rathidaung township resigned

Around 20 villages administrators in Rakhine North’s Rathidaung township have resigned these days. A Rakhine politician give his opinion that the resignation of the governors in Rakhine state is causing difficulties for the local people and destroying the military council’s administrative system.
Although a verbal ceasefire between the military council and AA Rakhine forces has been reached, the number of village administrators in Rathidaung and Ponnagyun townships in northern Rakhine has increased.

Within these days, nearly 20 administrators from the Gutaung group in Rathetaung Township have resigned, according to one of the group’s administrators who resigned.

“This is the withdrawal of 19 groups in the Gutaung area, resigned all at once on the same day- resigned on the 26th.”

The resigned, village administrator in northern Rakhine State, who did not want to be named for security reasons, said that it was difficult for them to work with both sides between the military council and the AA group, and they had to resign because their lives were in danger and their lives were not safe.

“Resignation is not the other way around. Here, living between the two sides became tight and the villagers no longer wanted it. I don’t want a military council – I resigned on my own accord. Worried about the future. I have to withdraw because I am worried that it will become difficult if the two sides fight again.”

At the end of last November, more than 80 village administrators resigned from the military council in Ponnagyun Township in northern Rakhine. He said that he resigned on his own accord because it was not safe to be the governor of a region where fighting is frequent.

U Pe Than, an analyst of Rakhine affairs, also said that because the district administrators have resigned, the local people are facing difficulties.

“With this resignation, there is a gap between the needs of the people, of course, communication between the military council and the people was broken. This means there will be regional development. There will be information gathering for projects in the region, Next support, Support for pregnant women, there will be support for the elderly; The other side can get help. And after this, the endorsements that were checked by the military council, When the governors are unable to provide support, the chain of local needs is broken. On the other hand, it can be said that the rights of the people are lost.”

U Pe Than also considered that in places where the military council’s administrative mechanisms are broken, the administrative parts of the Rakhine AA group may become more important.

“Another reason is that the administrative mechanisms of our military council have failed. On the other hand, it can be said that the people suffered under their rule and the people were freed. Because the current military council does not care much about the people. If it becomes a problem, the people are the problem. This is the issue we are currently facing.”

In the past two months in Rakhine State, the military council has arrested more than 300 Rakhine residents, including ward administrators, on suspicion of being linked to the Arakan armed AA group, and AA said that only more than 100 of them have been released.

Currently, the military council and the Arakan armed AA group have a verbal ceasefire as a humanitarian act. But as local people, travel, Locals say that food and medicine are still having a hard time.
