Genocide in Burma For those who have committed ‘serious international crimes’, including war crimes and crimes against humanity. IIMM chief Nicholas Koumjian has warned that there is no time limit for legal action. The IIMM issued a statement on February 1, the one-year anniversary of the military coup in Burma.
“The IIMM, an independent mechanism set up by the United Nations to investigate and document international crimes in Burma, is monitoring the situation in Burma.”

The statement said that the IIMM, an independent mechanism set up by the United Nations to investigate and document international crimes in Burma, is monitoring the situation in Burma.
Last year, a group of military dictators overthrew a popularly elected government in Burma. The IIMM team watched with concern. Nicholas Koumjian said that although the military coup alone did not carry out what was considered a ‘grave international crime’, the Burmese military had kept a close eye on them because of their history of violence against political dissidents.
Nicholas Koumjian said more than 1,000 people had been killed since the military coup and that war crimes and crimes against humanity had been reported.
Security forces have been persecuted during the arrests of thousands of civilians. There have been credible allegations that he was sexually assaulted and even murdered. The IIMM is trying to confirm the allegations to determine whether these crimes were actually committed, and to determine who is responsible for the actual crimes. Nicholas Koumjian says the case is being set up to help with the lawsuit.
IIMM is grateful to the tens of thousands of individuals and organizations who have shared relevant evidence in the face of the dangers of serious international crime in Myanmar. The IIMM said in a statement that the participation of countries with eyewitness accounts and evidence is crucial to the IIMM’s work, and that the IIMM’s work in gathering international criminal evidence is in line with international and ASEAN calls for an end to terrorism in Burma.
