There is a temporary ceasefire between the Rakhine Army (AA) and the coup army in Rakhine, but the military council is still firing large and small arms.
Many small and large weapons were fired from the No. (9) Army High Training Campus of the Military Council in Min Pya Township, and the nearby residents become panicked.
The shooting started at around eight o’clock on December 8, morning and the shooting stopped around ten o’clock, according to local residents.
There were around 40 large arms and hundreds of small arms in that shooting, the local said.
“They were shooting like they were fighting. The gun was shooting continuously. The big weapon was shooting one after another. The sound of the gunshots made people panic because they didn’t know what was going on,” said a local.
Locals speculated that the firing of large and small weapons may have been due to a training course in the central (9) compound.
But the locals said that they did not know in advance that such heavy weapons would be fired.
“I think it is estimated that there is a training course. In the past, when the training was about to be completed or the training was about to start, small arms and heavy weapons would be fired at each other. But now, I cannot say exactly whether there is a training course or not.” said a nearby resident.
Eyewitnesses said that the shells fired from the central district (9) hit the mountains near Melun village in the west of the central district (9).
“It broke on the outside. Shot between the 9 mountains of the center and the center and hearing a crack in those places.” said the local.
The regional center (9) is located at the top of the Yangon-Sittwe highway between Minbar and Maypon, and nearby are the villages of Kan Ni, Oh Phone Taung, May Loon, and Che Ywa.
It has been more than a year since there has been no firing of large or small arms from the central (9) courtyard, the resident said.
This is the first time since the ceasefire between the Military Council and the Rakhine Army (AA) in Rakhine state that they have heard the sound of gunfire, the resident more said.
The areas around the regional center (9) were the areas where fierce fighting took place in 2018, 2019, and 2020, March 2020, the AA attacked the campus of school.
Since November 26, when the military council and the AA in Rakhine ended the ceasefire between the two sides, the shooting has been quiet, the residents said.
But sources on the ground say that the military council is continuing to stockpile arms and food.
