Rakhine Army – AA – sniper shot an educated Rohingya dead from Gudar Pyin village, Buthidaung Township
A Rakhine Army – AA base camp between Gudar Pyin and Taung village shot U Shekul Islam son of U Nur Islam, 45 years old, a resident of Gudar Pyin village, Buthidaung Township, Rakhine State to dead, according to confirmation by those who were at the scene and locals.
The resident of Gudar Pyin village – U Shekul Islam son of U Nur Islam- is a person who fled the war to Sein Hnyin Pyar village due to the fighting between the military council and AA, centered on Gudar Pyin village. On the morning of October 8th, he came to his home in Gudar Pyin Village by motorcycle to feed the chicken, ducks and domestic animals. He was shot at the bridge between Gudar Pyin and Taung, when he was returning back to Sein Hnyin Pyar village, after feeding the domestic animals and flocks, It is reported that he died on the spot due to the gunshot wound.

According to contacts with those who know well, the AA troops of the Rakhine Army have arrived and deploy near Gudar Pyin village. The members of the AA group, who were involved in the search for ransom money in Gudar Pyin, was well known by the victim U Shekul Islam. The victim was an educated Rohingya and the elder brother of the wife of the Democratic and Human Rights Party leader U Kyaw Min. It is known that he is the uncle of Ma Wai Wai Nu, who is one of the leading activists of human rights and Rohingya issues.
On October 7, it was learned that U Kyaw Min, a close relative of the victim, posted a messages on his Facebook page criticizing the Rakhine Army’s military activities around Gudar Pyin village. Residents said that U Kyaw Min’s Facebook posts and the shooting death of U Shekul Islam may be related.
The Rakhine Army AA also arrested former Kyauk Phyu MP U Kyaw Lwin, who criticized the killing of the Maungdaw District Education Officer on Facebook, according to some news outlets citing his family members.
When contacted to Ro Nay San Lwin, a leading activist for democracy and Rohingya issues based in Germany, said, “Since the Burmese army is the common enemy of all of us, we have always supported the Rakhine Army’s (AA) revolution. It is important to follow international laws when fighting with weapons. We, Rohingya are a people who have been committed to the point of genocide. On the other hand, the ICJ – International Court of Justice – has issued an interim measure to protect the Rohingya and not to commit crimes against the Rohingya.
There are a lot of things that we did not say, considering the welfare of both communities. Today’s shooting of teacher U Shekul Islam violates international law and amounts to a war crime.
The head of the AA official need to order the junior officers and the troops at the ground. As we are the supporters of the revolution, we do not want the revolutionary organization to gain notoriety. To prevent incidents like today from happening again, it is said that the heads of AA will need to control, so that the incidents do not come out due to pressure.
