A committee, led by the refugee relief and repatriation commissioner, will start on Sunday relocations of around 3,000 Rohingyas, who were displaced following the recent arson attack and gunfight between two armed groups on the zero-line of the Bangladesh-Myanmar border near Naikhyangchari of Bandarban.
The Cox’s Bazar-based RRRC, Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, said that the committee headed by him was formed following a recent meeting of the national task force on Rohingyas to start the process.
‘The relocation process will begin on Sunday,’ Mizanur told the reporters.
He said that the committee would transfer 2,970 Rohingya from 547 families, now displaced around Konarpara camp on the zero line, to transit camps near Bandarban, and after verification, they would be sent to the camps based on the availability of rooms.
“The committee would transfer 2,970 Rohingya from 547 families, now displaced around Konarpara camp on the zero line, to transit camps near Bandarban, and after verification, they would be sent to the camps based on the availability of rooms. The previous estimate of the Rohingya population living on the zero line was over 4,500, but they only received a family card number from about two-thirds of them. The whereabouts of 1500 are not confirmed.”

According to officials, the previous estimate of the Rohingya population living on the zero line was over 4,500, but they only received a family card number from about two-thirds of them. The whereabouts of 1500 are not confirmed.
The International Committee of the Red Cross, which led humanitarian efforts in the camp on the zero line before the displacement took place on January 18, said it was not involved in the verification process.
‘Under the current circumstances, the humanitarian needs of people affected by recent developments are at the centre of our concerns and efforts,’ the ICRC said in a clarification.
Cox’s Bazar police superintendent Mahfuzur Rahman said that they would examine whether any of the Rohingyas in the zero line have any involvement in criminal activities.
Home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said on January 26 that he expected no awkward incident would take place in Konarpara in the coming days.
Bangladeshi police officials said that the gunfight between two armed groups linked to the Rohingya Solidarity Organisation and the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army on January 18 left at least one Rohingya, Hamid Ullah, 24, killed and three injured.
The incident took place in the area where Squadron Leader Rizwan Rushdee, a Bangladesh Air Force official posted at the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence, and a young Rohingya woman were killed during a joint anti-smuggling drive on November 14.
