An amicable meeting between National Unity Government and Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh was held on 29th August at 7 pm local time. After the opening statement by the Union Prime Minister at the meeting, the Ministry of Human Rights clarified the efforts that are being made by the National Unity Government for the resolution of Rohingya situation.
Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Than reaffirmed that the National Unity Government is in talks with Rohingyas, National & Ethnic Community Organisations, the Government of Bangladesh and the United Nations to prepare the groundwork for conditions suitable to support the voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation of the Rohingya taking refuge in our neighbouring country.
In addition to this the National Unity Government will try its best to promote three things in its attempt to create conditions suitable for repatriation which includes equality, responsibility and justice.
Union Prime Minister reiterated that for the promise to be fulfilled democracy that is durable must be achieved together with victory over the military dictatorship and its atrocious rule. And that the National Unity Government’s policy towards the Rohingya people is based on its respect for Human Rights.
This was followed by a questions and answer session where questions and proposals posed by the Rohingya people were addressed.
Stated that he felt sad about the fact that 1million Rohingya people were displaced due to the ethnic cleansing actions by the Myanmar army. Additionally, he commented that the National Unity Government was well prepared to annul, amend and replace laws such as the 1982 Nationality Law, which abused human rights and gave credence to discrimination. And to achieve this end the National Unity Government will work together with the Rohingya People, national and ethnic organisations, the Government of Bangladesh, and the United Nations. He also noted that this meeting supported the basis for mutual understanding between us and gives the Rohingya People the voice and the opportunity in policy making.

Closing statements were then made by the Acting President Duwa Lashi La, in which he stated that he felt sad about the fact that 1million Rohingya people were displaced due to the ethnic cleansing actions by the Myanmar army.
