Dhaka has called for the inclusion of the Rohingya repatriation issue in the OIC’s Ten-Year Plan of Action (2026-2035), emphasizing the need for the organization’s continued advocacy for the sustainable return of the Rohingyas to their homeland in Myanmar.
The call was made when OIC Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Ambassador Ibrahim Khairat paid a courtesy call to Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md Jashim Uddin at the foreign ministry on Sunday, according to a ministry’s press release.
During the meeting, the special envoy conveyed that the OIC is willing to work with the Bangladesh government to organize a High-Level Conference on the Situation of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
The foreign secretary extended his sincere thanks to the Special Envoy for visiting Bangladesh and for recognizing the importance of addressing the Rohingya crisis.
The meeting focused on strengthening humanitarian support and enhancing coordinated diplomatic efforts to ensure the repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar.
They discussed the existing situation in the Arakan state and attached importance to working together to resolve the Rohingya crisis.
The foreign secretary acknowledged and appreciated the OIC’s support for the ongoing “Gambia vs Myanmar Case” at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
