After stealing a weapon from AA, a tribal youth from Bangladesh is said to have fled to the country.
According to Bangladeshi media, the youth, who is 21 years old, a Tonchongya national, has been identified as Jibon.
Dainat in Myanmar is referred to as Tonchongya in Bangladesh, according to residents who were interviewed.
Bengali media quoted him as saying that he is a citizen of Bangladesh and that his house is in the Gorjbonia community of the Naikhongchhari Township in Bandarban.
On Monday morning in Bangladesh, Jibon was taken into custody while carrying 52 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, and an AK-47 rifle.
He turned himself in to the Border Guard Bangladesh in the Palaungkhali area of the Cox’s Bazar district’s Ukhiya township.
Lt. Col. Mohammad Jasim Uddin, the commander of the BGB (64) Battalion, informed the media that the man claimed to be a Bangladeshi national and a member of the AA, but that his identity and nationality were being investigated.
According to the Battalion Commander, he had fled the camp during questioning because of security worries.
According to a ULA/AA official at the border, the youth was a Bangladeshi ethnic minority who had sought refuge in the AA camp to perform odd jobs (sundry works) at the Taungpyo camp, which is located in northern Maungdaw Township near the Bangladeshi border.
He was not an AA soldier and had run away a few days earlier with a gun and some ammo while he was away.
According to AA authorities, they were communicating with the Bangladeshi government about the escapee.
