More than 1.4 million Burmese people have been displaced by the conflict – United Nations IOM

There are more than 1.4 million people who have fled their homes due to the conflict in Myanmar, and in the coming year 2023, the number of refugees may increase at the current rate or even more, so the humanitarian situation may worsen, according to the IOM, the United Nations’ international organization for migration.

After the military coup in 2021, there were more than 1,100,000 people who fled their homes due to armed conflicts, and it is said that there are more than 601,000 people in Sagaing Division alone. The IOM estimates that 40,000 people flee the country every month due to the ongoing conflict and economic crisis in Myanmar.

Burma will continue to face difficulties in the education and health sectors. In addition, the IOM stated that there are difficulties in the ability to diagnose and treat Covid-19, and the dangerous situation may increase.

It is also estimated that due to the election plan to be held by the Military Council in 2023, further terrorist repression and insecurity may worsen. In addition, Myanmar is among the countries that will be most affected by climate change, and Myanmar is ranked 156th out of 182 countries in the world in terms of its ability to defend itself.
