Malaysia urges ASEAN to make an urgent decision to end the Myanmar conflict

Malaysian Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah urged ASEAN to make an important decision to end the conflict in Myanmar. Minister Saifuddin Abdullah stated on his Facebook page that there has been no real progress in all 5 ASEAN common agreements, the violence has worsened, and there are no key stakeholders in the ASEAN-Military Council talks, and there is no necessary consultation.

Humanitarian aid is also being monopolized by the military council and used politically. Cambodia to not allow the Myanmar representative to attend all the ASEAN ministerial meetings and to establish a framework for the implementation of the consensus before the ASEAN summit meeting to be held in November. Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah announced his opinion today that ASEAN should establish a framework that will end the problems in Myanmar and the processes to achieve this framework. He said that ASEAN, together with the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Myanmar, Dr Noeleen Heyzer, should act as a successful solution to the Myanmar issue with the participation of the international community.
