The United Nations Office for Human Rights in Southeast Asia (OHCHR) announced on November 28, that it is very concerned about the impact on civil liberties and human rights in the new law on the association of the military council.
The Military Council repealed the law on associations enacted in 2014 and issued a new law on associations that is stricter on domestic and international civil society on October 28, 2022.

The statement also criticized the military council for using the country’s legal framework and judiciary to suppress the opposition and control the country in a dictatorial manner.
In addition, the OHCHR also requested the military council to comply with international human rights and humanitarian laws.
In the new association law issued by the military council, if the association does not have a registration certificate, it will be three years imprisonment or a fine of 10,00.000 kyat. This includes the fact that if the registration expires, you can be imprisoned for two years or fined up to 500,000 Kyats.
