The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Military Council issued a statement on October 27 yesterday that the Myanmar side could not comply with the decision to continue implementing the five-point common agreement regarding Myanmar at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Special Meeting held on October 27 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In that meeting, without Myanmar participating, only nine ASEAN countries agreed to discuss and agree, not according to the principles of the ASEAN Charter and the consensus of all member countries, according to the statement.
U Than Soe Naing, a political analyst told this response is defensive because they don’t want the strictures of ASEAN countries on Myanmar.
“According to the statement, the implementation of the five ASEAN common agreements, rather than being friendly, it shows a defiant attitude that the Myanmar can’t follow it because it’s illegal.”
