The European Union (EU) has re-appointed Igor Driesmans, the EU’s special envoy to ASEAN, as its special envoy to Burma.
The EU says it has been tasked with supporting the ASEAN and UN efforts to bring peace and democracy to Burma.

The French embassy in Rangoon has welcomed the EU’s appointment of a special envoy to Burma.
A statement from the embassy said France would support an inclusive political dialogue on Burma.
The European Union (EU) has condemned the coup and imposed sanctions on its leaders. Financial assistance to Myanmar has also been suspended.
On 21 February, the EU imposed further sanctions on 22 companies and 22 companies, including military council ministers.
