42 Rohingya including 26 children were arrested in Mraun Mya

42 Rohingya, including 26 minor children, were arrested near the village of Ngamin Chiang on September 19, in Mraun Mya Township, Irrawaddy Division, said residents of the Mraun Mya.

A Mraun Mya resident, who did not want to be named for security reasons, told that 42 Rohingya who had come by boat to the Irrawaddy Division were arrested after the village administrator summoned them for questioning as an unknown woman entered the village.

Those arrested are total 42, inculding 18 boys and eight girls under 18 with eight men and eight women over 18. They were sent to the Mraun Mya Police Station, where they were tested for Covid-19. One man and two women were found to be infected with Covid-19, the Mraun Mya residents said.

According to inquiries from local residents and Rohingya organizations, among those arrested are Rakhine Kyauktaw, Buthidaung, Maungdaw, Rathedaung and Sittwetownships. In addition, three Rohingyas who returned from the Kutupalaung refugee camp in Bangladesh.

31 Rohingya people were arrested along with five boatmen on the morning of September 18, near the shore of Nwe Nyo Chaung Village, Shwesaungyan town, Pathein Township, Irrawaddy Division, and they are currently sent to Pathein Prison, according to local residents.

According to data compiled on local residents’ statements and reports from local news media, nearly 800 Rohingya who tried to leave Rakhine State were arrested in different parts of Myanmar from December 2021 to September 6, 2022, through land road and waterways.

In recent days, the fighting between the Rakhine Army AA and the military council has been fierce almost every day, where Rohingyas are liveing, in the Maungdaw region of northern Rakhine state and two Rohingya families have crossed the border and fled to Bangladesh. A motor shell fired by Myanmar military council landed on the side of Bangladesh, killing a young Rohingya.
